The year was 1933.
Gas was 18 cents a gallon, the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco was
started and the forest fires of the Tillamook Burn destroyed 240,000
acres. After 5 years of volunteer effort, construction on the Pine Grove Community House was completed and a Dedication of the building was held on August 5, 1933. Times and events have changed but Pine Grove still remains at the heart of our community located in Manzanita. On August 1st and 2nd, 2008 neighbors, visitors, young and old came to mark or 75th Anniversary at The Pine Grove. Friday, August 1 A Reader’s Theatre performance with highlights of Pine Grove’s past. Saturday, August 2 An Open House with refreshments, a display wall of memories with photos and pictures, and a re-dedication of the building. Live Music for listening & dancing with “Shy Jazz”, a local band playing jazz standards. A historical publication is available chronicling Pine Grove’s contribution to the local area in civic, educational and social activities. Look for it at Cloud and Leaf bookstore on Laneda. Pine Grove has been building a stronger community for 75 years. Thanks go to the 75th Committee of Pine Grove members for planning and organizing events. We are grateful for the involvement of the club officers and members, band members and friends of Pine Grove who will be assisting with the events. Thanks too for the donations from individuals, local clubs and merchants, and Pine Grove Community House.
